S4C has reached agreement with Welsh independent producers over broadband rights for TV programmes.
The channel has agreed a 35-day exclusive window, after which time producers can exploit programme content on broadband, with S4C sharing income from the exploitation on a 50/50 basis.
The broadband deal forms part of the primary rights package negotiated by S4C and television production company trade body Tac, which sees S4C commission programmes on the basis of a five-year licence period.
S4C retains exclusivity for television broadcasting in the UK during this period.
Other broadcasters are still negotiating broadband rights with Pact (the English equivalent of Tac) and unless an agreement is reached by March 21, communications regulator Ofcom has said it will intervene.
Iona Jones, S4C's chief executive, said, "This progressive approach to broadband rights is consistent with S4C's policy of empowering the independent sector, and includes other initiatives such as the tendering of development contracts and reassignment of programme rights."
