Broadband Wales Programme
The five-year, multi-million pound, flagship Broadband Wales Programme was launched by the
Welsh Assembly Government in July 2002.
The aim of the Programme is to underpin a positive economic
outlook for Wales through addressing 'market failure' - as
identified in the 'Ubiquitous Broadband Infrastructure for Wales' report
commissioned by the Welsh Development Agency in 2001.
BBW Strategy
The Broadband Wales Unit undertook a Strategic Review of the
Programme during the summer of 2004. The
recommendations [PDF - 34Kb] of the
review, presented to the Economic Development &
Transport Committee, Welsh Assembly Government, on 22nd September
2004 were unanimously approved.
The
Strategy, launched in January 2005, seeks
to set further challenging targets for 2005 – 2007 on both an
incremental and aspirational basis.
BBW Initiatives
The Welsh Assembly Government's Broadband Wales Programme
has instigated a number of
initiatives which tackle both supply and demand
side issues.
